About Projecting Beauty
Projecting Beauty emerged from the Embolden2018 Festival, which focused on challenging ageism and building respect for Elders. The Festival included a Fashion Parade - all the models were 65+ and we invited them to tell us what their cat walk attitude was. We also invited our models to think about taking their catwalk attitude into everyday life as a protective factor against ageism. It’s about not waiting for the world to be less ageist - it’s about living our lives to the full right now.
The Fashion Parade challenged the ageist misconception that beauty is limited to youth. We suggested that beauty changes as we age – but is not less. We wanted to show how older people have grace, style and a sense of play. We also wanted to celebrate models of a range of body shapes, genders and skin colours.
The Fashion Parade was such a success we have decided to create a Program of activities under the Projecting Beauty banner. Fashion isn't the outcome - its a vehicle for challenging ageism. We will repeat the Fashion Parade at the annual Embolden Festival - but we also want to explore how how we can expand the concept ... more about that as the Program evolves. On this website you will find:
